An idiot is a person who goes on speaking things which are of no value. Thus this slang given for television is absolutely apt. Television is a form of media that has great ability to influence and brainwash the viewing public. The talking box in one’s living room has assumed the overpowering role it plays today as a result of the weakness of society. This may seem like a negative view but a society’s strength is based on the relationships between people and when so much time is spent away from others and together with the media, the actions that take place are often times a reflection of what television presents. The overwhelming influence of the media is a constant threat to the maintenance of traditional family values and to the protection of our children’s future. Nevertheless, television cannot be changed for it is too big and powerful but compromises can be made that can strengthen society and help keep
Television makes people physically inactive. It is impossible to certain values protected. It is harmful to stay in front of the TV for a long time. It spoils our eyes and health, doctors say. But the same thing happens when we read articles or interesting narrative essays for a long time. Indeed, if to watch three or more reality shows in a row it makes you at first confused than frustrated and then constantly unsatisfied and angry. It is also same story with movies. stand up and go for a walk when your favorite soap opera is coming up. You leave everything undone and rush to see what happens next and stay glued to the screen till it’s over. Then another are another comes and you slowly but surely turn into a couch potato with health problems as in mental, as in physical field.
Violence and sex shown on television results in higher rate of crimes and encourages antisocial behaviour. Many criminals confess that their violent actions or attitudes to women were encouraged by TV. The rate of such crimes is constantly growing and more and more often they are committed by teenagers. This is becoming a great problem of modern society. A big part of TV audience consists of teenagers. This group of society is especially vulnerable to the violence and various stereotypes, promoted by TV, because the mentality of young people is in the process of formation. Television’s impact on the morality of the younger generation can affect the future of our society negatively, and so the state and parents should act to limit their exposure to it
Television is mostly directed to films and shows that have commercial purposes but little cultural value. Television has become a temple of mass production, shallow values and stereotypes that have a great influence on modern society. This negative effect spreads with the growing popularity of TV, especially among young people and children. It defiantly changes our society for the worse; trivializing culture and making us all conform to a bland, "Hollywood" model of entertainment in which regional traditions and diversity are lost
Depression is a well-known psychological problem of modern society. The popularity of TV watching is among the reasons of this phenomenon. Violence, aggression, crimes and wars are broadcast through the daily news as well as in movies, showing dark pictures that encourage psychological tension, pessimism and negative emotions. Nowadays television is greatly abused for commercial purposes. Advertisers try to convince the audience that the solution to a problem or the fulfilment of a desire can only be achieved through the purchase of a product. It is designed towards blind acceptance by the viewer. In this way TV negatively affects the human mind, by limiting the possibilities of conscious choice, and promotes a consumer society.
Television has incredible power. In a society where money signifies success and influence, television has taken its place among the most prosperous of businesses. Television cannot be attacked because it can and has successfully stood up to all sorts of challenges. We, society, are responsible for making television a threat to traditional values and future generations. It is our duty, as a population, to work together to steer away from the tube to the values that will strengthen society. Step by step, this can be done and the future will get brighter in the long run.

In the older time radio and newspaper was only the main source of getting the latest news and as well a great source of entertainment till the television was invented. The television has changed the lives of people. It has not only become a great source of entertainment but also its help us to know the latest news all over the world and also it helps children and as well as elder people to gather a lot of information about their own surrounding and about other things as well. It creates a great impression in the minds of people. We can see a lot of interesting programs like on natural environment, sports, mega structures, new inventions, daily soaps and even movies who all people enjoy a lot. It has many advantages which makes its one of the best way of attaining knowledge.

Nowadays television plays a significant role not only in social and political life, acting as a tool for spreading information and forming people’s mentality, but also in the everyday life of individuals as a source of entertainment. It affects our minds and plays a role in shaping social changes. It is argued that this may be harmful as television shows more and more violence, sacrifices the quality of the programs for the sake of commercial benefit and takes away the biggest part of our free time. On the other hand it is impossible to imagine the life of modern society without television, especially keeping in mind the crucial importance of spreading information around the globe.


It is obvious that the influence of family, friends, religion and school is decisive in forming the moral values of young people. If parents and teachers are not willing or capable of performing their proper role, then teenagers can be negatively influenced not only by TV, but also by friends, their social environment and other factors.

Many scientific and cultural programs are shown on television, which give new educational opportunities for our society. In addition TV is a very important factor in our information society. It enables the spread of information and opinion on important political and social issues, thus encouraging individuals to participate more actively in the life of society. Call-in shows and other programs help to establish closer links between politicians and electors. TV represents different interests and gives more opportunities for self-expression, thus forming a more open society. Interactive digital channels promise even more.

People are conscious creatures and they can choose the way to spend their free time that they prefer. Parents should be blamed for the habits of their children, but not television. The life style of the individual determines the role of television in his or her free time, but not vice versa. In any case, young people in many countries are now spending less time watching television than they did ten years ago, preferring to surf the internet instead.


Television has carried us to the ends of the earth and into space, taken us to the ocean’s bottom and into the earth's crust, into factories and operating rooms where we have practically participated in the most complex surgery. It has shown us nations and peoples whom we might otherwise never have seen. Television's vast storehouse of audio-visual information has proven to be an indigestible glut which has made us indifferent to the reef world around us.
